Thursday Sep 14th, 2017
If you love sports - especially hockey - you'll be excited to know that Oakville has been selected as a host for the 2017-18 Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour!
As Canadians, hockey is fundamental to us - it's practically in our blood.
Here in Halton, there’s an abundance of hockey fans - and homegrown talent - and now, those fans and everyone else in the city will have the chance to enjoy a massive celebration of hockey on Nov. 25 and Nov. 26.
The grand event will take place in downtown Oakville, boasting a weekend of family-friendly, free programming and hockey festivities. Anyone and everyone is invited.
Well, it's basically a festival that visits 24 communities across Canada, and it's all about hockey. The entire tour will take place from October to April for the 2017-18 NHL season.
"Along with the rest of council, I'm looking forward to what will no doubt be a weekend full of entertainment for hockey fans of all ages," said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton.
"What a great opportunity to showcase our community's heritage, hockey history and unique stories with the rest of the Canada."
Oakville will host a two-day outdoor hockey festival featuring local celebrities, NHL alumni, free activities, games, interactive experiences and live entertainment for all ages.
The festival will end with an outdoor viewing party on Sunday where Ron MacLean and co-host Tara Slone will broadcast live from the Sportsnet(tm) Mobile Studio while the Vancouver Canucks take on the New York Rangers.
